The Music

Band LogoThe 2ND THIEF Band is an outreach ministry of 2ND THIEF. It is a power rock and blues trio that consists of guitar, bass, and drums. Whenever the setting permits, the band has a more reflective side of two acoustic guitars and bass. All three musicians offer up vocal duties. The band plays in a variety of venues and brings a message of grace, love, and freedom that will touch all of those who hear.

The music, whether blues, rock, or today’s contemporary, is all focused on glorifying our heavenly Father and to draw others into fellowship and understanding through declaring the Good News through the gift of music. The band is available for outreaches, contemporary adult and youth services, as well as live music venues. The Sound

You'll notice a difference with this ministry outreach group. The band does not principally play contemporary Christian rock but, rather, play the songs that a generation has grown up listening to known as "The Sound". Whether they are playing "Folsom Prison Blues", "Get Together" or an original piece like "Ridin' for His Glory", the music the band plays has a purpose.

SAMPLE PLAY LIST

  • "Folsom Prison Blues" (Johnny Cash)
  • "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" (U2)
  • "Walk Don't Run" (The Ventures) (instrumental)
  • "Get Together" (The Youngbloods)
  • "Ridin' For His Glory" (2ND THIEF Band)
  • Guitar

When you listen to the band, try to see if you can understand the purpose of each song. For example, the band plays Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues". The lyrics speak of a man who knows he can't be free because he's in Folsom prison for murdering a man. There are prisons with bars as there are those without. You may be caught in a prison of alcoholism, drug and nicotine addiction, or ensnared by habits that bring you into bondage.

You don't need prison bars to tell you that you're stuck in a prison that you can't escape. You long to be free from your prison, but like the song, you hear that "whistle blowin' and you hang your head and cry". However, there is One who can set you free . . . Jesus, the Son of God.

Jesus says, "If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed" (John 8:36).
